When creams or lotions containing this ingredient are applied to the skin, alpha-glucosidea, an enzyme present in the skin, interacts with AA2G™ to promote the gradual release of the vitamin.

Ascorbyl glucoside was originally developed in Japan as a drug used in cosmetic products to brighten the overall skin tone and reduce pigmentation (age spots and freckles).
